Share Permissions allows groups of people to share files and folders connected to the same network. Since an organization shares its resources according to its employees’ needs, this Windows feature makes it easy to do so. Share Permissions in Windows 11 and the precedent versions provide this ability to implement appropriate access permissions to content. If you have installed Windows 11 on your computer and you want to share a folder using Share Permission, you may face trouble at first. And due to the security issue, Microsoft made file-sharing damn tricky. Don’t worry! In the following paragraphs, you will learn how to share files over the network on Windows 11.

You can read about NTFS Permission on NTFS Permissions in Windows Server 2022 and Windows 11 page.

How to use share permissions on Windows 11

Before beginning to share a file, you must turn on the windows discovery options:

Go to the Control Panel, and click on the Network and Internet.

In the new window, click on the Network and Sharing Center.

On the top left-hand side, click on the Changed advanced sharing settings.

Turn on network discovery in the private/public/domain/all networks.

Turn on File Sharing Options

When you share folders with colleagues or friends, the built-in share permissions tools make the process easy for you. There are two types of shares in File Explorer.

1. Basic Share

Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder you want to share; right-click on it, find the properties and click on it.

Click on Sharing tab at the top of the window; you will see two options: Share (basic Share) or Advanced Sharing. If you click on the share option, you can quickly share folders with minimum configuration. Click on Share, and from the text box, find the user or group you want to share with.

Sharing Tab in the Folder Properties

(This is the default permissions)

Fix file sharing problems

After you shared a folder and it did not work or did not show up in the network on other computers, you may need to enable some services on your computer.

Search Turn Windows Features on or off in the search box or start menu and open it.

Scroll down and find SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support in the new tiny window and expand it. Check SMB 1.0/CIFS Client. Restart your computer.

Turn On SMB Feature

UPnP and SSD Discovery in Windows Services

After you set these four services to Automatic and start each of them, you need to restart your computer. After the restart of your computer, you can share folders in the network.

Conclusions

To conclude, the share permissions in Windows 11 add extra security dimensions to the organization’s network. Additionally, this feature allows users and groups to use shared folders and files according to their needs. We hope this article could help you solve the sharing problems in your network and if you have questions, write them in the comment section of this page.

Nearby sharing is a feature in Windows 11 and 10 that lets us easily share files, images, videos, and links with nearby devices. This feature works using either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on PCs running Windows 11 or Windows 10 (Version 1803 or letter). Since Windows 11 has a slightly different interface than Windows 10, the steps to set up the nearby sharing on windows 11 are a bit different. The feature is turned off automatically; in the following article, you will learn how to work with nearby sharing in Windows 11.

Important notes:

Make sure both PCs support the nearby sharing feature.

Keep both PCs close to each other.

Nearby sharing shares faster over Wi-Fi compared to Bluetooth.

Your devices must be connected to the same network.

Set your network connection to private on both devices.

When you turn on the nearby sharing, the Bluetooth automatically turns on.

How to turn on Nearby Sharing on Windows 11?

1. To turn on the nearby sharing on windows 11, go to your system setting and find the Nearby Sharing option. Click on that option, and a new window will open.

Have you ever noticed that Gmail has the ability to send only 33 MB file to others? What should we do to send large files to your collages or your business partners? Or what are best ways to share large files online free or to pay? If you need to send big files, there are plenty of good ways to share big files without having any trouble. So, in this article, I have highlighted some the best ways to share big files. Some of them are online sites like Myairbridge, Wetransfer, and Filemail. And finally, at last, I have introduced how Microsoft and Apple share their data inside their company. I hope you will like it.

Best Business Secure File Sharing Practice

There are tons of Best ways to Share Big Files, but the most reliable and perfect ways are included in this post. I have personally tested each one of them one by one, except for Courier a Hard Drive. Becuase I don’t have a company. These sites and methods have these features.

Secure File transfer free & If you want even the best then you have to pay.

Free Secure file sharing & Paid Option is also available.

Send large video files online free till 30 GB.

Send Large files up to 5TB with $59 per month.

Wetransfer

WeTransfer is also a cloud service provider which is based on file transfer service in the cloud. It is one of the simplest services to use for sharing large files. All you need is insert your email and insert the person’s email whom you want to send the files to. Then click the Plus icon and Upload the file for sharing. Once the files are uploaded the website automatically will send it and it will be available for seven days to download. After seven days the website will remove the file.

Basically, it gives you only 2GB free to share files with your colleagues. But if you want to send bigger files, then you really have to buy their service. For $12 a month or $120 per year you can upgrade to WeTransfer Plus, which gives you 20GB of file transfers at a time, and 100GB of storage. You will also have the option to set a password to download files & also you can customize backgrounds and emails if you wish.

Filemail,

Filemail is even a better option for transferring large files. It is a secure file sharing service for business and personal. Comparing to the Wetransfer, at a time you can share up to 50GB files. While sending the file it gives you the below options:

Filed will available for how many Days.

Notify me when files are downloaded.

Protect download page with the password.

HTTPS – Secure Transfer.

Unfortunately, the last two options aren’t available in free version. If you want to use them, then you really have to use the pay services. When it comes to pricing, its pricing is also best then the WebTransfer. First of all, the free version gives 30GB Max size for File Transfer which has the ability of downloads for 7 days. The Pro version $9/month, with unlimited size, 30 days download & other features. The Business version cost $15/month with the listed features below.

Using VPN for Secure File Sharing

If the files are really important and you want to send them to your boss. Then you really have to use a VPN service. A virtual private network (VPN) enables users to send and receive data while remaining anonymous and secure online. There are tons of VPN Provider companies available on the web, but which is the best investigate and find out. These days every product has a built-in VPN. Microsoft has 5 different types of Built-in VPNs.

Point to Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)

L2TP/IPsec with the certificate.

L2TP/IPsec with the Pre-shared key.

Secure socket tunnelling Protocol (SSTP).

IKEV2

In the meantime, these VPNs have a sign-in type of Username & Password, Smartcard, and Certificate. Android Devices such as Samsung has 5 types of VPNs.

PPTP

L2TP/IPsec PSK

L2TP/IPsec RSA

IPsec Xauth PSK & RSA

IPsec Hybrid RSA

iPhone & iPad has also its built-in VPNs. Such as L2TP/IPsec, PPTP, Cisco IPsec. But their sign-in options are very much impressive.

I’m sure, you are curious and saying what does a VPN have to do with sharing large files. Some internet providers are using a broadband traffic management for moderation of upload bandwidth. A good example can be Virgin Media in the United Kingdom. So, now you get the idea.

Use a file compression

We, humans, are always after the easiest ways to do a job. The easiest solution for sending large files is compression software like 7-zip and WinRAR. If you have multiple files they can be compressed into one folder. Also they handy big files can be separated into different parts which mostly Iranian companies are using. This compressing software is available for all platforms of Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. Extracting a 50 MB Drupal software, takes 3 minutes, sending that 51 MB file without zipping, takes 10 minutes. So, it’s clear that a large file will transfer faster than a folder containing smaller files of the same size. 7-zip and WinRAR let you set a password for Protection, so you can share them safely.

Courier a Hard Drive for Secure File Sharing

Do you know that the fastest way to transfer large files is not via Internet? Infect the fastest way to transfer a large number of big files is using a Hard Drive and a courier. All the Cloud Providers companies (Google, Microsoft, and Amazon) aren’t using the cloud for transferring big files. Instead, they are using Hard Drivers locally inside in the company. Microsoft charges a nominal flat fee (less than £60) per storage device handled, roughly similar to Amazon Web Services’ Import/Export disk while Google uses third parties. Transferring 30TB data’s of an external Hard disk on the speed of 140 dedicated line will take more than 30 days.

Using Cloud Storage Services

Cloud storage services have really made file sharing it easy for the people. Before CD/DVD Room there was a floppy disk, then came USB. Now barely people are using USB sticks for a variety of purposes. No one had ever thought one-day cloud services would really have this much usage on the web. As I said in the courier a Hard Disk Section, that the fastest way is a Hard Drive. But After that comes in the second cloud services. Certainly, the free version of any cloud services won’t be enough. If your files are 20 TB then you really have to buy Enterprises version. Here is the list of some cloud services which might be helpful to you.

But sharing file between Kali Linux and Windows has a bit complicated process. You need to know both Linux and Windows file sharing protocols and utilities to share file between Kali Linux and Windows 10. Previously, we wrote many articles about sharing files between different operating system. Here we completely focus an easy way to share file between Kali Linux and Windows 10.

The process to Share file between Kali Linux and Windows.

Check network connectivity.

Enable Windows File Sharing.

Create a Share folder in Windows.

Configure Kali Linux File Sharing.

Install “cifs-utils” for mounting the shared folder in Linux.

Access Windows shared folder from Linux.

Sharing file between Linux and Windows.

Share File between Kali Linux and Windows 10

Do all the process of above list to enable file sharing between Kali Linux and Windows 10. Before starting the file sharing, make sure your Windows and Linux machine are works properly.

Note: Here I just explain some important commands. All the process are explained clearly in the video at the end of this post.

1. Check Network Connectivity

Checking network connectivity with “ipconfig” command in Windows and “ifconfig” command in Kali Linux. Your computer must be on the same network.

Check Network Connectivity in Windows and Linux

The “ipconfig” command shows IP address configuration of Windows operating system. And the “ifconfig” command shows the Linux IP address and network configuration.

Related: How to network Linux and Windows 10?

2. Enable Windows File Sharing.

I don’t want to explain it again. You can check the process of enabling file sharing in Windows 10 on the above network Linux and Windows article. From advanced sharing settings of Windows, expand All Networks and turn on public file sharing and disable password protection option then click Save Changes.

Do the step 3 create a folder and share it for file sharing. This folder will be accessible from Linux.

5. Install “cifs-utils” for mounting the shared folder in Linux.

The CIFS filesystem is the preferred method for mounting SMB/CIFS shares on Linux. The in-kernel CIFS filesystem relies on a set of user-space tools. That package of tools is called cifs-utils. Although not really part of Samba proper, these tools were originally part of the Samba package.

To install “cifs-utils” type “apt-get install cifs-utils” in termial.

2. On the virtual machine settings, select Shared Folders tab and click add new shared folder button then chose the folder you want to have access inside VirtualBox virtual machine. Tick the checkbox of Read-only, Auto-mount and Make Permanent options to have access shared folder quickly when you log in to the virtual machine.

Enable File Sharing Between VirtualBox and Host Windows

3. Now, you have configured the VirtualBox shared folder like the below screenshot. Click OK to apply the changes and check the result.

VirtualBox Shared Folder Option

4. The result shows a shared folder between VirtualBax and Host machine. If you don’t see the shared folder, it means that you did not install the VirtualBox guest additional drivers for integrating the VirtualBox and host system.

Share file between VirtualBox and Host machine

Note: If you did not install the VirtualBox guest Additional drivers, you would not able to use the VirtualBox shared folder option for file sharing.

This option works the same on Windows, Linux and Mac OS systems. Just follow the article step to do file share between VirtualBox guest and Linux host or Mac OS.
