<p>In the previous article, we described <a href="https://www.technig.com/create-a-child-domain-in-windows-server-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">how to create a child domain</a> using the Server Manager console. In this article, we will show you how to do the same thing using Windows PowerShell. PowerShell is a powerful tool that can be used to automate many tasks in Windows Server. It is also a great way to create child domains, as it can save you time and effort.</p>

<p>To install AD DS and create a forest, you can follow the instructions in the article &#8220;<a href="https://www.technig.com/install-active-directory-on-windows-server-2022-using-powershell/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Install Active Directory On Windows Server 2022 Using PowerShell</a>&#8220;.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Steps to Create a Child Domain Using PowerShell</h2>

<p>The creation and configuration of a child domain is part of the post-installation process of Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). This process also includes promoting the server to a domain controller. First, the AD DS role must be added to the server. Once the role is added, you can create and add a child domain to the parent domain. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Add AD DS Role Using Windows PowerShell</h3>

<p>Follow the steps below to add the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). </p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open <strong>Windows PowerShell</strong> as administrator.
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>If you are working with Windows Server Desktop Experience, right-click on <strong>Windows PowerShell</strong> in the <strong>Start Menu</strong> and select <strong>Run as Administrator</strong>. </li>

<li>If you are working with Windows Server core, run <code>powershell</code> the command in the command prompt. It opens PowerShell. Once the PowerShell is opened, use <code>Start-Process PowerShell -Verb runAs</code> to open it as administrator.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="801" height="214" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-7.jpg" alt="Opening PowerShell as Administrator from Command Prompt" class="wp-image-18199" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-7.jpg 801w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-7-300x80.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-7-768x205.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Opening PowerShell as Administrator from Command Prompt</figcaption></figure></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list" start="2">
<li>Before installing the AD DS role, let&#8217;s first see if it is available. To do so, run <code>Get-WindowsFeature AD-Domain-Services</code>. As shown in the below command, it is not already installed and it is available. </li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="982" height="212" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-6.jpg" alt="Checking AD DS Role Status Using PowerShell" class="wp-image-18205" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-6.jpg 982w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-6-300x65.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-6-768x166.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 982px) 100vw, 982px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Checking AD DS Role Status Using PowerShell</figcaption></figure></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list" start="3">
<li>To install the AD DS role, run the <code>Install-WindowsFeature AD-Domain-Services -IncludeManagementTools</code> command. Wait for a moment until it finishes the installation, and it will show the result as shown in the picture below. </li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="804" height="216" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-5.jpg" alt="Installing AD DS Role Using PowerShell" class="wp-image-18208" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-5.jpg 804w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-5-300x81.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-5-768x206.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 804px) 100vw, 804px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Installing AD DS Role Using PowerShell</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The Active Directory Domain Service role is by now added to our Server. You can verify it using the <code>Get-Windows-Feature AD-Domain-Services</code> command. If it is properly installed, It will not be available for installation anymore. Now, in the second section, let&#8217;s go through the steps to creating and configuring a Child Domain using Windows Powershell in Server 2022. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Create a Child Domain Using Windows PowerShell </h3>

<p>Now that we have the AD DS role added, we can create and configure a Child Domain using PowerShell in the AD DS post-installation process. Below are the steps. </p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Import AD DS module. To do so, run the <code>Import-Module ADDSDeployment</code> command. </li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="754" height="107" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-4.jpg" alt="Importing AD DS Deployment Module Using PowerShell" class="wp-image-18211" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-4.jpg 754w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-4-300x43.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-4-750x107.jpg 750w" sizes="(max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Importing AD DS Deployment Module Using PowerShell</figcaption></figure></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list" start="2">
<li>Provide the credential to specify the user name and password of an admin used to accomplish this configuration. Use it only if you are not logged in with administrative privilege. To do so, use the <strong>Get-credential</strong> cmdlet and fill the pop-up window with an administrator&#8217;s username and password. </li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="895" height="355" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-2.jpg" alt="Specifying Administrative Credential Using PowerShell" class="wp-image-18214" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-2.jpg 895w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-2-300x119.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-2-768x305.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 895px) 100vw, 895px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Specifying Administrative Credential Using PowerShell</figcaption></figure></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list" start="3">
<li>To create a Child Domain, use the <strong>Install-ADDSDomain</strong> cmdlet followed by the following mandatory arguments and their values.
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>-DomainType </strong>followed by the &#8220;<strong>ChildDomain</strong>&#8221; value.</li>

<li><strong>-NewDomainName </strong>followed by the single-labeled (left-most part of a domain) child domain name which is &#8220;<strong>ca</strong>&#8221; in our example.</li>

<li>&#8211;<strong>ParentDomainName</strong> followed by the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the parent which is &#8220;<strong>technig.lab</strong>&#8221; in our example.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ol>

<p><strong>Note:</strong> the above arguments are the mandatory arguments that we must specify when we create a Child Domain. For more optional parameters click <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/addsdeployment/install-addsdomain?view=windowsserver2022-ps" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">HERE</a>. </p>

<p>So, considering the cmdlet and the required arguments, our whole line of code becomes: <code>Install-ADDSDomain -DomainType ChildDomain -NewDomainName ca -ParentDomainName technig.lab</code></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="818" height="106" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-2.jpg" alt="Creating a New Child Domain Using PowerShell" class="wp-image-18216" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-2.jpg 818w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-2-300x39.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-2-768x100.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 818px) 100vw, 818px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Creating a New Child Domain Using PowerShell</figcaption></figure></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list" start="4">
<li>Now, it prompts us to specify the <strong>safe mode administrator password</strong>. Enter the password and confirm it. Then, type down <strong>Y </strong>and press enter. Wait for a while until it finishes the Child Domain installation and configuration process. Once the process completes, it will restart the machine. </li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="988" height="234" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-1.jpg" alt="Setting DSRM Password and Confirming the Configuration " class="wp-image-18217" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-1.jpg 988w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-1-300x71.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-1-768x182.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 988px) 100vw, 988px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Setting DSRM Password and Confirming the Configuration </figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Once the machine restarts, the Child Domain is created on it. To this end, we are all done with the child domain configuration. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Steps on how to create a child domain in Server 2022 using PowerShell:</h2>

<p>Here is an explanation of the command:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><code>Install-ADDSDomain</code>&nbsp;is the PowerShell cmdlet that creates an Active Directory domain.</li>

<li><code>-NewDomainName</code>&nbsp;specifies the name of the child domain.</li>

<li><code>-SafeModeAdministratorPassword</code>&nbsp;specifies the password for the Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM).</li>
</ul>

<p>Here are some additional details that might be helpful for a beginner:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>The child domain name must be a single-label domain name.</li>

<li>The child domain name must not already exist.</li>

<li>The parent domain name must be a valid domain name.</li>

<li>The SafeModeAdministratorPassword must be a strong password.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Summary</h2>

<p>In this article, we installed the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) role on a Windows Server 2022 server using PowerShell. We then created a child domain using PowerShell cmdlets. The steps involved in creating a child domain using PowerShell are as follows:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Install the ADDSDeployment module.</li>

<li>Create variables to store the parent domain name and the child domain name.</li>

<li>Run the Install-ADDSDomain cmdlet to create the child domain.</li>

<li>Enter the SafeModeAdministratorPassword when prompted.</li>
</ul>

<p>PowerShell Remoting allows you to manage a remote computer from your local computer. You type commands on your local computer, and the changes are made on the remote computer. When you set up a PowerShell Remoting connection, you can execute commands remotely, and the changes will be made on the remote computer. The remote computer is the computer that you want to manage, and your local computer is the computer that you are using to manage the remote computer.</p>

<p>Here are some important points to keep in mind before setting up a PowerShell Remoting connection:</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Both the local and remote computers must be in the same domain or workgroup.</strong>&nbsp;This is because PowerShell Remoting uses Windows Remote Management (WinRM), which is a feature of Active Directory.</li>

<li><strong>Both computers must have PowerShell installed.</strong>&nbsp;PowerShell is a command-line shell and scripting language that is included with Windows.</li>

<li><strong>AD-DS, DHCP, and DNS servers must be configured and running on your network.</strong>&nbsp;These servers are used by WinRM to authenticate users and resolve hostnames.</li>

<li><strong>The IP address configuration on both computers must be correct.</strong>&nbsp;The remote computer&#8217;s IP address must be reachable from the local computer.</li>

<li><strong>The network adapter connection type for all network adapters on both computers must be set to Private.</strong>&nbsp;If any of the network adapters are set to Public, you will receive an error when you try to connect to the remote computer.</li>
</ol>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Create PowerShell Remoting Sessions</h2>

<p>Follow the steps below to set up a PowerShell Remoting connection.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><a href="https://www.technig.com/enable-powershell-remoting-in-windows-11/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Enable Powershell remoting</a> on the <strong>remote computer</strong> by running the <code>Enable-PSRemoting</code> command.</li>

<p>You don&#8217;t have to use PowerShell Remoting for commands that have computer name parameters. You can execute commands that have computer name parameters on the target computer without setting up a PowerShell Remoting session.</p>

<p>PowerShell Remoting is much faster than other remoting tools because it uses commands and scripts to manage the target computer. You can create multiple remoting sessions without loading much on the CPU.</p>

<p>A Restore Point is the type of file that contains the configuration of your operating system. When you create a Restore Point in Windows 11, it saves the configuration of your operating system at that specific point in time. You can apply back that configuration to your operating system later. You may want to create a Restore Point when you install an application, install a windows update, or make other changes to the operating system of your machine. Later you can delete the restore points if the changes are applied well, or you might not be satisfied with the new changes and you restore the previous configuration.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Create Restore Points in Windows 11 Using Graphical Tools</h2>

<p>We are using the System Properties to create a Restore Point. Follow the steps below to create Windows 11 Restore Points using System Properties.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list"><li>Search for <strong>Create a Restore Point</strong> in the Windows Search Bar. Or, type <code>Sysdm.cpl</code> in the Run and click <strong>OK</strong>, then click on the System Protection tab of the System Properties window.</li></ol>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Create Restore Points in Windows 11 Using Command Line Interface</h2>

<p>There are two ways to create and configure Restore Point using Command Line Interface. You can run commands on PowerShell or Command Prompt to configure Restore Points.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Create Restore Point using Command Prompt</h3>

<p>Follow the steps below to create Restore Points in Windows 11.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list"><li>Run CMD as administrator.</li><li>Type the following command <code>wmic.exe /Namespace:\\root\default Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint "Testing Restore Point", 100, 7</code>. The Testing Restore Point is the name of the restore point that I created during this article, and you can name your Restore Points differently.</li><li>To use more features of the restore point, type the <code>rstrui.exe</code> command.</li></ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="788" height="588" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220527_222148.jpg" alt="Using Command Prompt to configure Restore Point." class="wp-image-18294" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220527_222148.jpg 788w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220527_222148-300x224.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220527_222148-768x573.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220527_222148-86x64.jpg 86w" sizes="(max-width: 788px) 100vw, 788px" /><figcaption>Restore Point configuration in command prompt</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Create Restore Point Using PowerShell</h3>

<p>Creating a Restore Point through PowerShell is not a more complex and time-consuming process. If you type the commands correctly, you may not receive errors. Keep in mind that by default, you can only create one Restore Point every 24 hours. You can change the frequency of Restore Point creation from the registry if you need. Follow the steps below to Restore Point on Windows 11 using Windows Powershell.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list"><li><a href="https://www.technig.com/run-powershell-as-administrator-in-windows-server-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Run PowerShell as Administrator</a>.</li><li>Type <code>Enable-ComputerRestore -Drive "C:\"</code>. I am going to enable Restore Points for drive C:\. You can add another location.</li><li>Type the following command.<code>Checkpoint-Computer -Description "Checkpoint for testing purpose" -RestorePointType "MODIFY_SETTINGS"</code>. You will see the following screen when PowerShell starts creating a Restore Point.</li></ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="627" height="158" src="//i0.wp.com/technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220529_094018-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-18307" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220529_094018-1.jpg 627w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/screenshot_20220529_094018-1-300x76.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px" /><figcaption>Create Restore Point on Windows 11 using PowerShell.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Restore Point helps you to save the current setting of your operating system and restore it back any time in the future. It is good to use Restore Points when you make some changes to your computer, and you are not sure that changes will happen correctly.</p>

<p>Using PowerShell to install Active Directory Domain Services (AD-DS) on Windows Server 2022 helps you install it quickly. It is better to rename your server and assign a static IP address before installing the active directory.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Assign Static IPv4 and Rename Server Using PowerShell</h2>

<p>It is important to assign a static IP address to a server computer because dynamic addresses change after some time and it can cause problems. Another important thing is to rename your server before installing the active directory. It will take a long process to rename your server after you install the active directory. Follow the steps below to assign an IPv4 and rename the server.</p>

<p><strong>1. </strong>Run PowerShell as administrator. If you are using GUI versions of Windows Server, press <strong>Win+R</strong> to open the <strong>Run</strong> and type <strong>PowerShell</strong> then hit <strong>Ctrl+Shift+Enter</strong>. If you are using the core version of Windows Server, type PowerShell in the command prompt and hit Enter. The <strong>PS</strong> sign will be added at the beginning of your command which means PowerShell is open. Then execute the command <code>Start-Process PowerShell -Verb Runas</code> to run PowerShell as administrator.</p>

<p><strong>2.</strong> Type the <code>Get-NetConnectioProfile</code> to find the <strong>InterfaceIndex</strong> number.</p>

<p><strong>3.</strong> InterfaceIndex number for every network adapter is different. When you got the proper InterfaceIndex type the command <code>New-NetIPAddress -InterfaceIndex 6 -IPAddress 192.168.0.2 -PrefixLength 24 -DefaultGateway 192.168.0.1</code> and press Enter key to assign an IPv4 address. This is the network setting for this lab, you should assign an Ip address according to your own network setting.</p>

<p><strong>4.</strong> Type the <code>Rename-Computer -NewName "SKO-DC01"</code> command. SKO-DC01 is the name that I assigned to my server, you can type any name instead of that. Your server will be renamed after you restart it.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="189" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Computer-Rename-PwerShell-1024x189.png" alt="Rename Windows Server 2022 with PowerShell." class="wp-image-17825" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Computer-Rename-PwerShell-1024x189.png 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Computer-Rename-PwerShell-300x56.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Computer-Rename-PwerShell-768x142.png 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Computer-Rename-PwerShell.png 1054w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Rename a server using Windows PowerShell.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Now that you have configured your Computer Name and IP address, you can install Active Directory on Windows Server 2022 Using PowerShell.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Add AD-DS Role And Create a Domain Using PowerShell</h2>

<p>To create a domain controller on Windows Server 2022, you have to install AD-DS (Active Directory Domain Services) role and DNS Server role, it is faster using PowerShell instead of Server Manager. When you installed AD-DS and DNS Server properly, then you can create a domain controller. Follow the steps below to add the AD-DS role and create a domain in Windows Server 2022.</p>

<p><strong>1. </strong>Run PowerShell as administrator. Execute the <code>Get-windowsFeature</code> command in Windows PowerShell. Find the name of <strong>Active Directory Domain Services</strong> for PowerShell commands. In this Server it is <strong>AD-Domain-Services</strong> and it is available for installation.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="969" height="511" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Get-WindowsFeature-command.png" alt="Windows Server 2022 Features" class="wp-image-17827" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Get-WindowsFeature-command.png 969w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Get-WindowsFeature-command-300x158.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Get-WindowsFeature-command-768x405.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 969px) 100vw, 969px" /><figcaption>List of Windows Server 2022 features list in Windows PowerShell.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p><strong>2.</strong> Type <code>Install-WindowsFeature -Name AD-Domain-Services -IncludeManagementTools</code> command and hit Enter key.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="187" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Install-Active-Directory-1024x187.png" alt="Install Active Directory with management tools." class="wp-image-17828" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Install-Active-Directory-1024x187.png 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Install-Active-Directory-300x55.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Install-Active-Directory-768x140.png 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Install-Active-Directory.png 1124w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Install Active Directory and its management tools.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p><strong>3.</strong> Once the installation is finished, you have to import <strong>ADDS Deployment module</strong> manually by executing the command <code>Import-Module ADDSDeployment</code>. If this is the first domain controller, you must add a new forest by executing the command <code>Install-ADDSForest</code>. Type the <strong>Domain Name </strong>and <strong>DSRM password</strong>. Your domain name should be in this format (a name .lab, .com, or .anything you want). When you see a message that your server will be restarted, type <strong>Y</strong> to restart your server.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="361" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Set-Domain-Name-and-DSRM-password-1024x361.png" alt="Install Active Directory Domain Services using PowerShell" class="wp-image-17829" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Set-Domain-Name-and-DSRM-password-1024x361.png 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Set-Domain-Name-and-DSRM-password-300x106.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Set-Domain-Name-and-DSRM-password-768x271.png 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Set-Domain-Name-and-DSRM-password.png 1223w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Set up a domain in Windows Server 2022 using PowerShell.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>You might receive some warnings, but don&#8217;t worry the Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server roles will install. When you receive an error that DNS Server is not installed properly, you can install DNS Server manually and then try again. <p>PowerShell offers a quick way to manage computers remotely through scripting and cmdlets. You can enable Windows PowerShell Remoting to manage multiple computers remotely in Windows 11 and other latest windows.</p>

<p>While setting up a remote connection between computers, Windows Firewall blocks the request to the remote computer, so you have to allow the firewall features related to remote management in the Windows Firewall. Go to <strong>Control Panel,</strong> <strong>System and Security</strong>, <strong>Windows Defender Firewall</strong>, and click on <strong>Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall</strong>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="879" height="476" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359.png" alt="Allow an app or feature through windows defender firewall" class="wp-image-17637" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359.png 879w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359-300x162.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359-768x416.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 879px) 100vw, 879px" /><figcaption>Windows Defender Firewall.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>In order to be able to set up PowerShell remoting in Windows 11, allow the following features in the Windows Defender Firewall.</p>

<ol start="1" class="bs-shortcode-list wp-block-list"><li>Remote Desktop</li><li>Remote Assistance</li><li>Remote Event Log Management</li><li>Remote Event Monitor</li><li>Remote Scheduled Tasks Management</li><li>Remote Service Management</li><li>Remote Shut-down</li><li>Remote Volume Management</li><li>Virtual Machine Monitoring</li><li>Windows Firewall Remote Management</li><li>Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)</li><li>Windows Remote Management</li><li>Windows Remote Management (Compatibility)</li></ol>

<p>It looks a long way and has a lot of things to configure. The quick way is to enable it through PowerShell. Open PowerShell as administrator and then type <code>Enable-PSRemoting</code>. If this command does not run successfully, then you have to allow the features mentioned above manually.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="653" height="199" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_060844.png" alt="Enable PowerShell Remoting through PowerShell." class="wp-image-17630" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_060844.png 653w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_060844-300x91.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px" /><figcaption>Enable PowerShell remoting.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Sometimes you will receive an error message. If your computer&#8217;s network adapter is set up for a public network, then you have to change the connection type to private.</p>

<p>For more about PowerShell remoting, click <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/learn/ps101/08-powershell-remoting?msclkid=fdb7480ac25311ec8abb53443385e8b5&amp;view=powershell-7.2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Change Network Profile Type Using PowerShell</h2>

<p>To change the network profile type from public network to private network using PowerShell, follow the steps below.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="alignleft size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="979" height="410" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_023940.png" alt="Set Network connection Type" class="wp-image-17623" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_023940.png 979w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_023940-300x126.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_023940-768x322.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 979px) 100vw, 979px" /><figcaption>Set network category through PowerShell.</figcaption></figure></div>

<ol class="wp-block-list" start="4"><li>When you type a command in PowerShell, and it runs without any error, then it means that the configuration is successful. To make sure that the Network type changed from Public to Private, type <code>Get-NetConnectionProfile -InterfaceIndex 15</code>command.</li></ol>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="262" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843.png" alt="Get Network Connection Profile  in PowerShell." class="wp-image-17626" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843.png 819w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843-300x96.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843-768x246.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /><figcaption>Check the network connection profile for a specific ethernet.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Now that the connection type changed from public to private try to enable PowerShell remoting.</p>

<p>PowerShell is a great tool to configure windows settings locally or remotely because there is no Graphical User Interface (GUI) involved, and it runs the command quickly. Another advantage of PowerShell is that you can manage multiple remote computers at the same time, and run one command on multiple computers.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Steps to Install and Configure DHCP Using PowerShell</h2>

<p>Generally, the process of DHCP installation and configuration in Windows Server encompasses three tasks: installing the DHCP capability and its management tools, adding security groups, and authorizing DHCP in Active Directory. Let&#8217;s dive into the steps. </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Open the <strong>PowerShell </strong>from the <strong>Start Menu.</strong> See the picture below. You can also open it from <strong>Run </strong>using<code>powershell</code>command in the <strong>Run </strong>dialogue box. </li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/1-1.jpg" alt="Opening PowerShell on Windows Server 2022 | DHCP installation and Configuration using PowerShell" class="wp-image-17324" width="693" height="502" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/1-1.jpg 725w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/1-1-300x217.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 693px) 100vw, 693px" /><figcaption>Opening PowerShell on Windows Server 2022</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Before straightly going to the DHCP installation command, run the<code>Get-WindowsFeature</code>command. This command lists all the features available in Windows Server 2022. It shows the name and installation state of those features. As the picture below shows, we have the <strong>DHCP </strong>feature available to install. </li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/2-2.jpg" alt="Get-WindowsFeatures Windows PowerShell Command and Checking DHCP Feature" class="wp-image-17325" width="719" height="377"/><figcaption>Get-WindowsFeatures Windows PowerShell Command</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>To install DHCP and its management tools, run the command<code>Install-WindowsFeature DHCP -IncludeManagementTools.</code>Wait for a while till it finishes the installation, and you will see the details upon successful installation. </li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/3-2.jpg" alt="DHCP Installation Windows PowerShell Command" class="wp-image-17326" width="738" height="185" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/3-2.jpg 923w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/3-2-300x75.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/3-2-768x192.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /><figcaption>DHCP Installation Windows PowerShell Command</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Now, run the<code>netsh DHCP add SecurityGroups</code>command to add the DHCP local security groups.</li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/4-2.jpg" alt="Windows PowerShell Command to Add DHCP Security Group" class="wp-image-17327" width="738" height="174" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/4-2.jpg 876w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/4-2-300x71.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/4-2-768x181.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /><figcaption>Windows PowerShell Command to Add DHCP Security Group</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>The next step is to authorize the DHCP server to the Active Directory. To do so, use the command <code>Add-DhcpServerInDC -DnsName ServerName.DomainName.</code>Use your DHCP server name instead of the <strong>ServerName </strong>and your domain name instead of the <strong>DomainName </strong>in the above command. In my case, <strong>technigDC </strong>is the DHCP server name, and Technig.com is the domain name, as shown in the below picture.</li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/5-4.jpg" alt="Window PowerShell Command to Authorize DHCP in Active Directory Domain Services on Windows Server 2022" class="wp-image-17328" width="744" height="193" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/5-4.jpg 871w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/5-4-300x78.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/5-4-768x200.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 744px) 100vw, 744px" /><figcaption>Window PowerShell Command to Authorize DHCP in Active Directory Domain Services</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>At this point, we are all done with our DHCP installation and configuration. We can view the authorized DHCP servers in Active Directory using<code>Get-DhcpServerInDC</code>command.</li></ul>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/6-2.jpg" alt="Windows PowerShell Command to Check Authorized DHCP Servers in Active Directory" class="wp-image-17329" width="752" height="200" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/6-2.jpg 864w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/6-2-300x80.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/6-2-768x205.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px" /><figcaption>Windows PowerShell Command to Check Authorized DHCP Servers</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>That is all with DHCP installation and configuration using Windows PowerShell. That simple, it is installed and authorized. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Summary</h2>

<p>Using Windows PowerShell is a professional way of completing configuration tasks on Windows OSs, including Windows Server 2022. Throughout this article, we explained how we can install and configure DHCP on Windows Server 2022 using the PowerShell tool. We saw that we can easily do it using a few simple command lines. </p>

The easiest option to reset Windows 10 IP address with command prompt (CMD). If your system obtains its IP address automatically from a DHCP server, the &#8220;<strong>ipconfig</strong>&#8221; command can refresh your system IP address. The refreshing IP address process releases the old IP address and requests a new IP address from the DHCP server.</p>
<p>The other methods for changing Windows 10 IP address is GUI from network connections settings and using Windows PowerShell. Let&#8217;s do it with the easy one inside command prompt with <a href="https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc940124.aspx">ipconfig command</a>.</p>
<h1>Reset Windows 10 IP Address</h1>
<p>To reset Windows 10 IP address, just open the command prompt or PowerShell interface and do it with the following &#8220;ipconfig&#8221; commands.</p>
<p>Resetting Windows IP address needs:</p>
<ol>
<li>Press <strong>Windows+R</strong> to open the <strong>Run</strong>.</li>
<li>Type &#8220;<strong>cmd</strong>&#8221; and press enter.</li>
<li>To display the current IP address type &#8220;<strong>ipconfig</strong>.&#8221;</li>
<li>Check the output results of &#8220;<strong>ipconfig</strong>&#8221; commands.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>1.</strong> Press Windows and type &#8220;PowerShell&#8221; and open the Windows PowerShell. Now type &#8220;ipconfig.&#8221; The IP config command shows the current system IP address. Here my computer IP address is 200.100.10.2 with the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 200.100.10.1.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_11046" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-11046" style="width: 914px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Find-your-Windows-IP-Address-Technig.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-11046 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Find-your-Windows-IP-Address-Technig.jpg" alt="How to Find your Windows IP Address - Technig" width="914" height="348" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Find-your-Windows-IP-Address-Technig.jpg 914w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Find-your-Windows-IP-Address-Technig-300x114.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Find-your-Windows-IP-Address-Technig-768x292.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 914px) 100vw, 914px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-11046" class="wp-caption-text">How to Find your Windows IP Address &#8211; Technig</figcaption></figure></p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> To reset your system, IP address just types &#8220;<strong>ipconfig /release</strong>&#8221; and press enter. The <strong>/release</strong> option of ipconfig command will remove the current IP address. When the &#8220;<strong>ipconfig /release</strong>&#8221; command process has finished, type &#8220;<strong>ipconfig /renew</strong>&#8221; to obtains a new IP address from DHCP server.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_11048" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-11048" style="width: 826px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Refresh-Windows-10-IP-address-with-Command-Line-Technig.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-11048 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Refresh-Windows-10-IP-address-with-Command-Line-Technig.jpg" alt="Refresh Windows 10 IP address with Command Line - Technig" width="826" height="233" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Refresh-Windows-10-IP-address-with-Command-Line-Technig.jpg 826w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Refresh-Windows-10-IP-address-with-Command-Line-Technig-300x85.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Refresh-Windows-10-IP-address-with-Command-Line-Technig-768x217.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 826px) 100vw, 826px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-11048" class="wp-caption-text">Refresh Windows 10 IP address with Command-Line &#8211; Technig</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Yes, the output result of ipconfig /release shows that the current IP address removed. Now the system doesn&#8217;t have an IP address, and it is ready to obtain a new IP address from DHCP server.</p>
<p><strong>3.</strong> To get a fresh new IP address, just type &#8220;<strong>ipconfig /renew</strong>.&#8221; The /renew option of ipconfig command request a fresh new IP address from the DHCP server.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_11049" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-11049" style="width: 863px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Reset-Windows-10-IP-Address-with-Command-Line-Technig.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-11049 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Reset-Windows-10-IP-Address-with-Command-Line-Technig.jpg" alt="How to Reset Windows 10 IP Address with Command Line - Technig" width="863" height="372" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Reset-Windows-10-IP-Address-with-Command-Line-Technig.jpg 863w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Reset-Windows-10-IP-Address-with-Command-Line-Technig-300x129.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Reset-Windows-10-IP-Address-with-Command-Line-Technig-768x331.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 863px) 100vw, 863px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-11049" class="wp-caption-text">How to Reset Windows 10 IP Address with Command-Line &#8211; Technig</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>That&#8217;s good. The output result&#8217;s of ipconfig /renew shows that the system obtains a new IP address from the DHCP server.</p>

<p>That&#8217;s good. Let&#8217;s configure and change Windows 10 IP address with the command line. The command is bit long but easy to understand. No need to remember, just try to understand the netsh command structure.</p>
<p>To change the IP address of the &#8220;Ethernet0&#8221; network interface, type the following command.</p>
<pre class="nums:false plain:false lang:default decode:true">netsh interface ipv4 set address name=2 static 200.100.10.5 mask=255.255.255.0 gateway=200.100.10.1</pre>

<p>Once the command executed successfully, check the result with &#8220;<strong>netsh interface ipv4 show config 2</strong>&#8221; command. Yes, the output result shows the exact IP address has set on the &#8220;<strong>Ethernet0</strong>&#8221; network interface. Now the Windows IP address is 200.100.10.5 with the mask of 255.255.255.0 and default gateway is 200.100.10.1.</p>
<p><strong>Note</strong>: You can&#8217;t change the default gateway separately with the following command. It will remove the IP address and just set the default gateway address.</p>
<pre class="nums:false plain:false lang:default decode:true">netsh interface ipv4 set address name=2 gateway= (Gateway IP Address)</pre>
<p>That&#8217;s good and enough for IP address configuration in Windows 10 with the command line. Let&#8217;s change DNS IP address from the command line.</p>

<p><figure id="attachment_10530" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10530" style="width: 919px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/command-prompt-alternatives-windows//wp-content/uploads/2017/09/cmder-alternative-to-cmd.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-10530 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/cmder-alternative-to-cmd.jpg" alt="cmder alternative to cmd" width="919" height="486" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/cmder-alternative-to-cmd.jpg 919w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/cmder-alternative-to-cmd-300x159.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/cmder-alternative-to-cmd-768x406.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 919px) 100vw, 919px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10530" class="wp-caption-text">cmder alternative to cmd</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The number one cmd alternative is cmder. It&#8217;s very nice and comes in two versions. The mini version with small and light. And the full version that comes with <a href="https://git-scm.com/" rel="noopener">git for windows</a> app. It&#8217;s a software package created out of pure frustration over the absence of friendly console emulators on Windows. It is based on amazing software, and spiced up with the Monokai colour scheme and a custom prompt layout, looking outstanding from the start.</p>
<h3>2. <a href="https://conemu.github.io/">ConEmu</a></h3>
<p><figure id="attachment_10534" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10534" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/command-prompt-alternatives-windows//wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ConEmu-alternative-to-command-prompt.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-10534 size-medium" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ConEmu-alternative-to-command-prompt-300x205.png" alt="ConEmu alternative to command prompt" width="300" height="205" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ConEmu-alternative-to-command-prompt-300x205.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/ConEmu-alternative-to-command-prompt.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10534" class="wp-caption-text">ConEmu alternative to command prompt</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The second best command prompt alternative is ConEmu. ConEmu is not a shell, so it does not provide &#8220;shell features&#8221; like remote access, tab-completion, command history, and others. ConEmu starts a console program in a hidden console window and provides an alternative customizable GUI window with various features</p>
<h3>3. <a href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/console/">Console</a></h3>
<p><figure id="attachment_10536" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10536" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/command-prompt-alternatives-windows//wp-content/uploads/2017/09/comsole-alternative-to-cmd.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-10536 size-medium" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/comsole-alternative-to-cmd-300x179.png" alt="comsole alternative to cmd" width="300" height="179" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/comsole-alternative-to-cmd-300x179.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/comsole-alternative-to-cmd.png 674w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10536" class="wp-caption-text">Console alternative to cmd</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>If you want a simple and faster application, this one is a good one. The console is a Windows console window enhancement. Console features include: multiple tabs, text editor-like text selection, different background types, alpha and colour-key transparency, configurable font, different window styles</p>
<h3>4. <a href="https://mintty.github.io/">Mintty</a></h3>
<p><figure id="attachment_10538" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10538" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/command-prompt-alternatives-windows//wp-content/uploads/2017/09/mintty-alternative-to-cmd.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-10538 size-medium" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/mintty-alternative-to-cmd-300x164.png" alt="mintty alternative to cmd" width="300" height="164" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/mintty-alternative-to-cmd-300x164.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/mintty-alternative-to-cmd-768x421.png 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/mintty-alternative-to-cmd.png 921w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10538" class="wp-caption-text">Mintty alternative to cmd</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Google initially makes this one. Now you can find the source code in github.com. Mintty works on all Windows versions from Windows 2000 onwards. Similarly to other Cygwin/MSYS terminals based on pseudo-terminal (&#8220;pty&#8221;) devices, however, Mintty is not a full replacement for the Windows Console window (by default running the Windows Command Processor/command prompt / cmd.exe).</p>
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>There are some other software alternatives to cmd, but this list includes the best and most popular of them. If you have a better application or you have any questions about this article, feel free to comment it below.</p>

Before doing the conversion to full GUI and vice versa, you must know the basic configuration of Windows Server 2012 R2 Core.  The preview article was about essential <a href="https://www.technig.com/configure-windows-server-2012-r2-core/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Configuration of  Windows Server 2012 R2 Core?</a>&#8220;.</p>
<p>This is the capability of Windows Server 2012 R2 that allows administrators to install servers with the full Gui, use the graphical tools to perform the initial setup and then convert them to Server Core to conserve system resources. In case of needed any changes, it is possible to reinstall the Gui components or remove them again. We can do it this conversion with <a href="http://powershell.com/cs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Powershell</a> and <a href="https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh825236.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">DISM</a> command line utility.</p>
<h2>Method 1: Convert Server Core to Gui using PowerShell</h2>
<p>Get ready to convert Server Core to Full Gui using Windows PowerShell. In order to do this, log in to Server core with an administrator account and open the PowerShell through opened command prompt.</p>
<p><strong>1.</strong> To open PowerShell type &#8220;start PowerShell&#8221; on command prompt and press Enter. The PowerShell will open in a new window. See the screenshot.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2829" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2829" style="width: 1086px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Start-PowerShell-on-Server-Core.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2829 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Start-PowerShell-on-Server-Core.jpg" alt="Start PowerShell on Server Core" width="1086" height="237" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Start-PowerShell-on-Server-Core.jpg 1086w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Start-PowerShell-on-Server-Core-300x65.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Start-PowerShell-on-Server-Core-768x168.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Start-PowerShell-on-Server-Core-1024x223.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1086px) 100vw, 1086px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2829" class="wp-caption-text">Start PowerShell on Server Core</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Now convert server core to full Gui using with the following &#8220;<strong>install-WindowsFeature</strong>&#8221; PowerShell command.</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> First of all gets the name of GUI features with &#8220;<strong>Get-WindowsFeature *GUI*</strong>&#8221; command.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2830" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2830" style="width: 992px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Windows-GUI-Shell.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2830 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Windows-GUI-Shell.jpg" alt="Windows GUI Shell" width="992" height="190" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Windows-GUI-Shell.jpg 992w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Windows-GUI-Shell-300x57.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Windows-GUI-Shell-768x147.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 992px) 100vw, 992px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2830" class="wp-caption-text">Windows GUI Shell</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>You see the two <strong>Graphical Management Tools and Infrastructure</strong> and <strong>Server Graphical Shell</strong> which we need to install it.</p>
<p><strong>3.</strong> Type the command &#8220;<strong>Install-WindowsFeature -Name Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra, Server-Gui-Shell &#8211;</strong>Source:E<strong>:\sources\install.wim</strong>&#8221; to install the GUI on Server core.</p>

<p><strong>4.</strong> OK, when the installing features have finished successfully, restart the server core using &#8220;<strong>Shutdown -r -t 0</strong>&#8221; command.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2833" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2833" style="width: 1094px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Restart-Server-Core.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2833 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Restart-Server-Core.jpg" alt="Restart Server Core" width="1094" height="170" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Restart-Server-Core.jpg 1094w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Restart-Server-Core-300x47.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Restart-Server-Core-768x119.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Restart-Server-Core-1024x159.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1094px) 100vw, 1094px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2833" class="wp-caption-text">Restart Server Core</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>After rebooting the system, you will see the Windows Server with full Gui and all necessary graphical management tools.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2835" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2835" style="width: 1028px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2835 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core.jpg" alt="Convert Server Gui to Server Core" width="1028" height="772" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core.jpg 1028w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core-768x577.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Gui-to-Server-Core-86x64.jpg 86w" sizes="(max-width: 1028px) 100vw, 1028px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2835" class="wp-caption-text">Convert Server Gui to Server Core</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Finally, Windows Server with full Gui is here.</p>
<h2>Method 2: Convert Windows Server Full Gui to Server Core</h2>
<p>OK, let&#8217;s convert Server from full Gui back to Server Core using &#8220;<strong>Uninstall-WindowsFeature</strong>&#8221; PowerShell command. We can do it with graphical as well, but the command is easy and you must learn for the exam.</p>
<p><code>Uninstall-WindowsFeature -Name Name Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra, Server-Gui-Shell -Restart</code></p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2836" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2836" style="width: 898px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uninstall-Windwos-Feature-with-PowerShell.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2836 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uninstall-Windwos-Feature-with-PowerShell.jpg" alt="Uninstall Windwos Feature with PowerShell" width="898" height="52" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uninstall-Windwos-Feature-with-PowerShell.jpg 898w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uninstall-Windwos-Feature-with-PowerShell-300x17.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Uninstall-Windwos-Feature-with-PowerShell-768x44.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 898px) 100vw, 898px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2836" class="wp-caption-text">Uninstall Windows Feature with PowerShell</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The command will uninstall and remove features and convert Server GUI to Server Core. After restarting the system, you will see your old Server core with only one opened a command prompt.</p>
<h3>Method #2: Convert Server Core to Full Gui using DISM</h3>
<p>Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) is a command-line tool that can be used to service a Windows image or to prepare a Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) image. DISM can be used to service a Windows image (.wim) or a virtual hard disk (.vhd or .vhdx). But here we are using DISM to <a href="https://www.technig.com/how-to-install-windows-features-offline-using-dism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Install Windows Features</a> or convert Server Core to full Gui with DISM.</p>
<p><code>Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:ServerCore-FullServer /featurename:Server-Gui-Shell /featurename:Server-Gui-Mgmt /Source:E:\sources\install.wim </code></p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2838" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2838" style="width: 1000px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Core-to-Full-Gui-using-DISM.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2838 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Core-to-Full-Gui-using-DISM.jpg" alt="Convert Server Core to Full Gui using DISM" width="1000" height="252" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Core-to-Full-Gui-using-DISM.jpg 1000w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Core-to-Full-Gui-using-DISM-300x76.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Convert-Server-Core-to-Full-Gui-using-DISM-768x194.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2838" class="wp-caption-text">Convert Server Core to Full Gui using DISM</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>After installing Windows features with DISM, type &#8220;<strong>Y</strong>&#8221; to restart the system.</p>
<h3>Remove Windows Features with DISM</h3>
<p>To remove the Gui features or Convert Server full Gui back to Server Core, do with the following command.</p>
<p><code>Dism /online /Disable-feature /featurename:ServerCore-FullServer /featurename:Server-Gui-Shell /featurename:Server-Gui-Mgmt</code></p>
<p>OK, that&#8217;s all you need to know to convert Server core to full Gui and vice versa. For the exam 70-410, you don&#8217;t need to know all of these, but you shout ready to involve with such questions about the conversion of Windows Server to full Gui and back to Core.</p>
<p>Hope this has been informative for you.</p>

With the following command line guide, you can do more than share files using the command line.</p>
<p>Preferably, you need to know the basic of command-line interfaces. In Windows, you can do it with command prompt or Powershell. Both of them works perfectly for this article. I prefer to use Powershell rather than a command prompt. Some commands are really needed to execute in Powershell.</p>
<h2>How to Share Files Using Command-Line?</h2>
<p>It&#8217;s not just sharing files. You should enable network discovery, enable the firewall, viewing shared files, and connecting to the share a folder or create a <a href="https://www.technig.com/map-network-drive-windows-using-group-policy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">map network drive</a>. So let&#8217;s do it step by step with Windows PowerShell.</p>
<h2>1. Change Computer Name with Command</h2>
<p>When your Windows installation has finished, at the final step ask you to set a name. In the network, if the computer name is not related to computer, it should be changed to find it easy. The Rename-Computer PowerShell command works exactly for changing a computer name.</p>
<p>Firs type &#8220;<strong>hostname</strong>&#8221; command to know the current computer name. Then type &#8220;<strong>Rename-Computer -NewName Win10 -Restart</strong>&#8221; and press enter.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4082" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4082" style="width: 649px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Change-a-Computer-Name-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4082 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Change-a-Computer-Name-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="Change a Computer Name with Command Line" width="649" height="181" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Change-a-Computer-Name-with-Command-Line.jpg 649w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Change-a-Computer-Name-with-Command-Line-300x84.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4082" class="wp-caption-text">Change a Computer Name with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>In command, <strong>Win10</strong> is the new name of my computer. The &#8211;<strong>restart</strong> switch will restart the system after rename.</p>
<h2>2. Assign IP Address with Command</h2>
<p>A computer in a network needs to have an IP address like a mobile with a number. Assigning an IP address to a computer, preform with Netsh command. I refer you to &#8220;<a href="https://www.technig.com/configure-windows-ipv4-networking-with-netsh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Configure Windows IPv4 Networking with Netsh</a>&#8221; article. Assigning IP address is covered clearly.</p>
<h2>3. Creating Folder with Command</h2>
<p>Creating a folder is not just performed with right-click and select <strong>New</strong> then <strong>Folder</strong>. Command-line has few commands to create a folder or directory. So let&#8217;s do it with mkdir or md command.</p>
<p>While Powershell is opened, type &#8220;<strong>dir</strong>&#8221; to list all directories of the current path. Then type</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4084" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4084" style="width: 780px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Create-a-Folder-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4084 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Create-a-Folder-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="Create a Folder with Command Line" width="780" height="475" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Create-a-Folder-with-Command-Line.jpg 780w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Create-a-Folder-with-Command-Line-300x183.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Create-a-Folder-with-Command-Line-768x468.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4084" class="wp-caption-text">Create a Folder with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>A folder named &#8220;<strong>ShareFolder</strong>&#8221; has been created. Type &#8220;<strong>dir</strong>&#8221; or &#8220;<strong>list</strong>&#8221; to see the created folder.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4085" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4085" style="width: 800px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/List-Directory-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4085 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/List-Directory-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="List Directory with Command Line" width="800" height="278" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/List-Directory-with-Command-Line.jpg 800w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/List-Directory-with-Command-Line-300x104.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/List-Directory-with-Command-Line-768x267.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4085" class="wp-caption-text">List Directory with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The &#8220;<strong>Ls&#8221;</strong> command is not working on command prompt, instead, use <strong>dir</strong>.</p>
<h2>4. Share a Folder with Command</h2>
<p>Now the folder is created successfully and need to share for the network. Before sharing a new folder, once type &#8220;<strong>net share</strong>&#8221; command to see what is shared currently on your system. Type net share and press enter.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4086" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4086" style="width: 714px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/What-is-Shared-on-My-Computer.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4086 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/What-is-Shared-on-My-Computer.jpg" alt="What is Shared on My Computer" width="714" height="223" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/What-is-Shared-on-My-Computer.jpg 714w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/What-is-Shared-on-My-Computer-300x94.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 714px) 100vw, 714px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4086" class="wp-caption-text">What is Shared on My Computer</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>There is nothing shared currently on this computer. So to share a folder, type &#8220;<strong>net share NetworkFiles=C:\SharedFolder /grant:everyone, full</strong>&#8221; then press enter.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4087" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4087" style="width: 768px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Share-Files-with-Command-using-PowerShell.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4087 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Share-Files-with-Command-using-PowerShell.jpg" alt="Share Files Using Command using PowerShell" width="768" height="85" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Share-Files-with-Command-using-PowerShell.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Share-Files-with-Command-using-PowerShell-300x33.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4087" class="wp-caption-text">Share Files Using Command Line with PowerShell</figcaption></figure></p>
<ul style="list-style-type: circle;">
<li>The <strong>NetworkFiles</strong> is the share name of <strong>SharedFolder</strong> which previously created with command.</li>
<li>The <strong>/grant:everyone,full</strong> assign shared permission to everyone&#8217;s group. You can assign <strong>/change</strong> or <strong>/read</strong> permission.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Note:</strong> When you assign permission, you must specify the group name or a user name.</p>
<p>Type &#8220;<strong>net share&#8221;</strong> to see the result.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4089" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4089" style="width: 779px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Shared-Folders-on-My-Computer1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4089 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Shared-Folders-on-My-Computer1.jpg" alt="Shared Folders on My Computer" width="779" height="233" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Shared-Folders-on-My-Computer1.jpg 779w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Shared-Folders-on-My-Computer1-300x90.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Shared-Folders-on-My-Computer1-768x230.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 779px) 100vw, 779px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4089" class="wp-caption-text">Shared Folders on My Computer</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Well done, the folder has been created and shared successfully. Now go to the next step, enabling network discovery services with command.</p>
<h2>5. Enable Network Discovery with Command</h2>
<p>Network discovery is a network setting that affects whether your computer can find other computers and devices on the network and whether other computers on the network can see your computer. By default, Windows Firewall blocks network discovery, but you can enable it with command.</p>
<p>To enable network discovery, type &#8220;<strong>netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group=&#8221;Network Discovery&#8221; new enable=Yes</strong>&#8221;</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4094" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4094" style="width: 943px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Enable-Network-Discovery-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4094 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Enable-Network-Discovery-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="Enable Network Discovery with Command Line" width="943" height="137" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Enable-Network-Discovery-with-Command-Line.jpg 943w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Enable-Network-Discovery-with-Command-Line-300x44.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Enable-Network-Discovery-with-Command-Line-768x112.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 943px) 100vw, 943px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4094" class="wp-caption-text">Enable Network Discovery with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The Firewall rules are updated. Now the network discovery is enabled and you should see the computer&#8217;s name when executing &#8220;<strong>net view</strong>&#8221; command.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4095" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4095" style="width: 577px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/View-Network-Computers-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4095 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/View-Network-Computers-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="View Network Computers with Command Line" width="577" height="179" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/View-Network-Computers-with-Command-Line.jpg 577w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/View-Network-Computers-with-Command-Line-300x93.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 577px) 100vw, 577px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4095" class="wp-caption-text">View Network Computers with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The net view is another useful command-line utility which shows network computers.</p>
<h2>6. Connect to Shared Folders with Command</h2>
<p>Now I&#8217;m on another Windows which is Windows 8.1. I&#8217;m trying to connect to shared folder&#8217;s of Windows 10 through the network with the command line.</p>
<p>While you are on the other computer on the network, type &#8220;<strong>net share</strong>&#8221; to  see network computers</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4102" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4102" style="width: 608px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Net-View-Command.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4102 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Net-View-Command.jpg" alt="Net View Command" width="608" height="388" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Net-View-Command.jpg 608w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Net-View-Command-300x191.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 608px) 100vw, 608px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4102" class="wp-caption-text">Net View Command &#8211; Share Files using Command</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Both Windows 10 and Windows 8 are in the same network. Type &#8220;<strong>net view \\Win10</strong>&#8221; to see the shared folders of Windows 10.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s connect to shared folders of Windows 10 form Windows 8. Type &#8220;<strong>net use Y: \\Win10\NetworkFiles</strong>&#8221; then press enter to create a network map drive for <strong>NetworkFiles</strong> folder.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4103" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4103" style="width: 607px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Connect-to-a-Shared-Folder-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4103 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Connect-to-a-Shared-Folder-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="Connect to a Shared Folder with Command Line" width="607" height="66" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Connect-to-a-Shared-Folder-with-Command-Line.jpg 607w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Connect-to-a-Shared-Folder-with-Command-Line-300x33.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4103" class="wp-caption-text">Connect to a Shared Folder with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Here is the result of executing &#8220;<strong>net use</strong>&#8221; command. It shows network map drives. Read more about net use command on <a href="https://www.technig.com/map-network-drive-windows-using-group-policy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">How to Create Map Network Drive In Windows 10 and Server</a>? article.</p>

<p>Navigate to drive <strong>Y:</strong> and see what files the Windows 10 folder has?</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4105" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4105" style="width: 836px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/See-the-Shared-Folders-Contents.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4105 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/See-the-Shared-Folders-Contents.jpg" alt="See the Shared Folder's Contents" width="836" height="276" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/See-the-Shared-Folders-Contents.jpg 836w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/See-the-Shared-Folders-Contents-300x99.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/See-the-Shared-Folders-Contents-768x254.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 836px) 100vw, 836px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4105" class="wp-caption-text">See the Shared Folder&#8217;s Contents &#8211; Share Files using Command</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s copy some files from the shared folder to our computer with command. It performs by<br />
<strong>&#8220;copy&#8221;</strong> command. Type &#8220;<strong>copy &#8216;Windows 10 Reports.txt C:\Users\Shais\Desktop</strong>&#8221; then press enter.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_4107" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4107" style="width: 831px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/share-files-using-command-line//wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Copy-the-Shared-Files-to-other-computer-with-Command-Line.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-4107 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Copy-the-Shared-Files-to-other-computer-with-Command-Line.jpg" alt="Copy the Shared Files to other computer with Command Line" width="831" height="145" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Copy-the-Shared-Files-to-other-computer-with-Command-Line.jpg 831w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Copy-the-Shared-Files-to-other-computer-with-Command-Line-300x52.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Copy-the-Shared-Files-to-other-computer-with-Command-Line-768x134.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 831px) 100vw, 831px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4107" class="wp-caption-text">Copy the Shared Files to another computer with Command Line</figcaption></figure></p>
