The run dialogue box is the quickest way to access a page. Whether it’s settings page, control panels or any other programs in windows.  The quickest way without sifting to control panel or settings page. Here is a list of most known run commands in windows that can help you use windows faster and more efficient.

Most Windows users use the run box to open a page or programs, and as you have opened a lot of pages and applications using run commands, you may have lots of pre-loaded commands in run box history. Sometimes that bothers us. Here is the Guide to ” How to clear Run history in Windows .”

Clear Run History in Windows 10

We do use the registry editor to clear the run history, so to start, open the Run box by pressing the Windows key and R at the same time. Write regedit in the run and hit enter to go to the registry editor.

The above step will lead you to open the registry editor. In the registry editor go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER

In the HKEY_CURRENT_USER directory, you may see lots of subdirectory, find the Software folder and open it.

Now you are in the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software directory. In the software, the folder goes to the subfolder named Microsoft.

From  Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft  go to the folder Windows>CurrentVersion.

Currently, we are in the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion directory. Now we have to go to the Explorer directory. To navigate to the Explorer directory scroll down and find the Explorer folder.

After opening the Explorer folder, scroll down and find the folder named RunMRU.

Here ( Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU ) are the directory where we can clear run history in Windows.

On the right side, for everything you are seeing in the run commands history, right-click on any of these files and delete the file.

1. In order to block a program from accessing the Internet, you need to create a windows firewall rule. Go to Firewall by Clicking Windows 10 Start Button and search for Windows Firewall and Open Windows Firewall

2. That will guide you the main Windows 10 firewall screen.

3. Click on  Advanced Settings from the column on the left side. and you will be guided to the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security Section.

4. From the Column left Click on Outbound Rules to go to Advanced Outbound Rules Section.

5. From the right column under the Action area, Click on New Rule to Create new Outbound Rule.

6. Herein rule type choose Program click next button to continue the process

7. Choose your program path from This Program Path Area and click Next. 

Note: Open the .exe file of any program you want to block, here as an example I will block the photoshop program which the directory in my computer is as below

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2017

8. From the action steps, Choose the Block the connection and Click Next to continue. 

9. In the profile section, tick all of them (Domain, Private, Public) to block the program in all connectivity conditions whether you are using a private or public network.

10. We are almost there to block a program completely from connecting to the internet.  As you are seeing in the picture below its time to write down a name and description for this rule. Name your Rule and if you would like to write down a short description for this rule and click Finish.

So if you shut down your pc, all your tabs and programs will go away. fortunately, Microsoft has offered the Sleep and Windows 10 Hibernate option along with the shutdown option. Here is how to add Windows 10 hibernate option in start menu.

However, by default, the Windows 10 hibernate option is not available under the Start>Power. We have to play a little bit with options bring it back under the Start>power

Hibernate Vs Sleep

Sleep Mode: In Sleep Mode the computer technically stays on while all actions on the computer are stopped and any open documents and applications are put in memory while the computer goes into a low-power state

Hibernate: Hibernate mode is very similar to sleep, but instead of saving your open documents and running applications to your RAM, it saves them to your hard disk. This allows your computer to turn off entirely, which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off. and instead, it will take longer to start again.

1. To add Windows 10 hibernate option to start>power navigate to Start>Settings>System and the following screen will be open.

2. From here go to  Power & sleep option. and you will be guided to the following page.

3. From here go to Additional Power Settings>choose what the power buttons do

4. Then go to Change Settings that are currently unavailable and scroll down to the bottom

Now click the Checkbox of Hibernate option. Next, click save changes and you are done.

Now go to Start>power you should now see the Windows 10 Hibernate option among others power options.
