Setting a local web server allows you to do your experiments without harming anyone’s hope. There are many Platforms by which you can setup local web server on windows 10. The best of them is WAMP because that is free. But unfortunately, WAMP is only available for Windows. But Mamp is available for both Windows and Mac. Wamp and MAMP in a local computer work perfectly, but their setting is little different from each other. That’s why today, I will show you How to setup localhost on Windows using MAMP. Setup Localhost on Windows 10

Step 1. To setup localhost first, download Mamp from its site. It is free but if want the complete features, you have to buy the pro version.

Step 2. Double click on the setup and start the installation process. The installation process is so easy, all you need is to select your language and click next, next up to the last window.

After installing MAMP, it depends on you, which platform you need to work on, but I’m setting up WordPress. Download WordPress from wordpress.org and follow the procedures.

Step 3. Extract WordPress htdocs inside the MAMP folder where you have installed. In this case, I have installed MAMP in Drive C:\mamp\htdocs

Step 4. Now run the MAMP application which you have installed.

Note: If you manually want to set up the preferences, select preferences and create your custom settings. But, I’m not interested in, I will go to the Default settings.

Step 5. Now select start the servers.

Step 6. When the server started select open start page or you can search for it manually localhost/mamp on the browser.

Create Database for Installing WordPress

Many users are having trouble with installing WordPress. The only reason is the database, which manually must be created inside the server. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use the local web server services. So, to install the WordPress, there are two ways which can perform to created data in order to install WordPress.

1. Just create a simple database on the server.
2. Create a new user, which will its own database.

Step 1. When you open the localhost/mamp, select Tools> PHPMyAdmin.

Step 2. Click on the database and create a new database. Name it whatever you want, I will name it WordPress.

Note: If you want to create a new user, head over to users and create a new user with the custom name and password. I suggest you create a new user because the basic method name and password is root which everyone knows. If you create a custom user, no one knows what your password is.

Install WordPress on Windows 10 Using MAMP

Step 1. Open a new tab and search there for localhost.

Step 2. Under the index selected, WordPress and the process of installing WordPress starts.

Step 3. Now you have to type the name of the database and the password. If you have just created a database username and password is root, just type the database name and submit.

Step 4. Select run the installation.

Step 5. Now fill out the information for your local site. When you are done click install WordPress.

Step 6. Once the installation goes successfully, login and enjoy the localhost.

Setup Local Web Server with MAMP

If you are using Apple OS, Again MAMP can do the job. Download the MAMP package and start installation. Installing MAMP on is also so easy. Believe you will do it perfectly. After installing open MAMP by visiting the applications or open it from Launchpad.

Download WordPress and paste that into the htdocts folder located in MAMP folder. If you are struggling to find it, just search in the spotlight for htdocs. When it appears, extract the WordPress in it.

Other steps are the same as I explained. Just visit the MAMP application and select open the web or search in safari localhost/mamp. Then select tools and create a new database or create a new user. After that search for localhost/WordPress and install WordPress.

Start Wamp Server Automatically

Here are the steps to run or start Wamp Server automatically.

• Type ” services.msc ” in Run and press enter.
• Search for ” wampapache64 “.
• Right-click and go to Properties
• On General tab, change the Startup type to Automatically and press Ok.
• Do the same step for ” wampmysqld64 “

In a nutshell, it was that easy. So, if you have any trouble doing the above steps, follow the following steps in details.

1. Open Services

You can search for services or type ” services.msc ” on Run to open services window.

2. Find wampapache64 and wampmysqld64.

After opening Services window, then search for wampapache64  and  wampmysqld64.

3. Open Properties.

Right-click on wampapache64 and go to properties. Then change the Startup type to Automatically.

Repeat the same steps for wampmysqld64 and you are done. In case of some issue, comment us.

Here is how to change localhost to domain name in Windows 10. Have you ever thought about how to change or rename your localhost address with a domain name you like?. For me when I found that I can change localhost address to a domain. I was so excited to use my favourite domain name, instead of localhost. Have you decided to change your Localhost name to a specific domain name? Like many other developers and me. Here Is How to change your localhost address to your favourite domain name.

Change Localhost to Domain Name

Here are two easy methods to change your Windows localhost address to the domain name.

Method One:  Using Hosts file

Step – 1: Run your notepad or any other text editor as administrator. A dialogue box will pop up and ask you “Do you Want to Allow This App to Make Changes to Your Device?”  Click Yes

Step – 2: From the Menu bar of Notepad go to File>open and open the following Directory

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Or go to MyComputer>Drive C>Windows>System32>Drivers>etc>

By default, you won’t be able to see the files located in them, etc. folder to see the existing files, Change the Document text to all files from the extension tab of notepad.

Once you changed the extension tab to all files, you will see the following files in the folder

hosts, Imhosts.sam, networks, protocol, services

Step – 3: Open the host’s file and write down your favourite domain name

After opening the “hosts” file that will look as below. Here you can add your favourite domain name with the same IP address as I have added the Dev.com with the IP of 127.0.0.1.

Note: you can add as many domains as you want to add.

Method Two: Wamp Server Tools

This technique is a  little bit easier than method one. To change your localhost to domain name all you need to do is run your wamp server and go to localhost page.

In the Localhost page, on the tool section, click on Add A Virtual Host then you will be guided to the following page.

Like the page, itself has the guide in the first input field write your domain name without space, Underscore and diacritical characters. 

The second input field is optional; you can add an IP address, or leave it empty.

The third input field goes to the address of the wamp server which is common as below.

C:/wamp64/www   or  C:/wamp/www/

Once you are done with the above steps, click on the Start, the creation of the virtual host.

Then go to wamp and rightclick>tool>restartDNS that’s it. Now open your browser and type your domain name to open the localhost page.

Local Web Server is the computer with server operating system to host Websites. It runs network protocols and services to function entirely for running written codes by different programming languages and databases like MySQL or MSSQL Server. Creating such a server need more money, configuration skills and daily maintenance.

Well, to have a home web server for running your written script or testing content management system (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, you don’t need a reliable computer and web server operating system. All you need to do this to install a web development platform which contains PHP engine for running  Scripts and MySQL Server for using as database and Apache Web Server. These are all pretty enough for our home and Free Web Server Lab.

There are many web development platforms with the same functionality for creating a local web server. In this article, we try to use WAMP server. If you are a Windows user, you can use WAMP Server or XAMPP Server. For Linux user better to use LAMP Server or some alternative.

First download the WAMP server from here according to your operating system architecture. If your PC operating system is x64bit, so you must download 64bit version of WAMP server. To know your OS architecture, right click computer icon’s on desktop and click Properties. You can see what is your OS. See the screenshot.

When you click the download link a new popup page will appear. Just do as the instruction. Click the download directly link.

Download the setup files and two necessary updates if you don’t have already installed them on your PC.

When the download has complete run the WAMP Server setup file and continue by clicking Yes to run as administrator.

Click next on the first page.

Accept the license agreement and click next.

Chose which directory you want to install Wamp Server and click next.

Tick create a desktop icon on the select additional tasks and click next.

Now click Install button in Ready to install page.

It takes a minute to extract all files. When extracting complete successfully, ask you to select a browser as default web browser for Wamp Server.

Just select each browser you have on your system and click Open. I’m using Google Chrome for this purpose.

Maybe Windows Firewall will ask you about allowing Wamp Server access to public network. In this page only click allow access and continue.

Leave the PHP mail parameters page by default and click next.

Finally click finish button to close the setup page.

Now the Wamp icon must appear to the Windows Taskbar.

Just click Wamp Server icon and open the Localhost link.

This is the home page of your local Web Server.

As web developer or programmer you can can write and test your code locally, also install CMS and test your website before you lunch it publicly trough the internet.
