<p>A short guide to installing Windows Server on SD Car for Cisco UCS Servers. In this lab, I demonstrate it on Cisco UCS 220 M4. The method works fin for every UCS servers.</p>

<p>Before booting your UCS Server, check the Cisco FlexFlash section via CIMC to make sure the Server recognized the SD card.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="587" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-OS-on-SC-Card-on-Cisco-UCS-Servers-Technig-1024x587.jpg" alt="Install OS on SC Card on Cisco UCS Servers - Technig" class="wp-image-16386" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-OS-on-SC-Card-on-Cisco-UCS-Servers-Technig-1024x587.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-OS-on-SC-Card-on-Cisco-UCS-Servers-Technig-300x172.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-OS-on-SC-Card-on-Cisco-UCS-Servers-Technig-768x440.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-OS-on-SC-Card-on-Cisco-UCS-Servers-Technig-750x430.jpg 750w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-OS-on-SC-Card-on-Cisco-UCS-Servers-Technig.jpg 1483w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Install OS on SC Card on Cisco UCS Servers &#8211; Technig</figcaption></figure>

<p>I&#8217;ve mounted a Samsung Evo SD Card instead of dedicated Cisco SD Card.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Install Windows Server on Cisco UCS SD Card</h2>

<ol class="wp-block-list"><li>Boot the UCS Server with <a href="https://www.technig.com/create-bootable-usb-using-diskpart/">Windows Server Bootable USB Flash</a>. </li></ol>

<p><strong>2.</strong> In the Windows Setup press <code>Shift+F10</code> to open the command prompt. </p>

<p><strong>3.</strong> Type the <code>diskpart</code> and press enters then partition the Cisco UCS SD card for Windows Installation with below <a href="https://www.technig.com/manage-hard-disk-using-diskpart-utility/">diskpart command</a>. </p>

<pre class="wp-block-code"><code>list disk
Select disk 4
clean
format quick fs=ntfs label=System
assign letter=C
active
exit</code></pre>

<p>Now the SD Card is partitioned and ready for deploying Windows Server. </p>

<p><strong>4</strong>. Run the Windows image file using the below command from the bootable USB. </p>

<pre class="wp-block-code"><code>X:\source&gt;dism.exe /Apply-Image /ImageFile:d:\sources\install.wim /index:2 /ApplyDir:c:\</code></pre>

<p><strong>Note:</strong> the <code>D</code> drive is my Bootable USB which contains the Windows Server sources contents. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="238" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-Windows-Server-on-SD-Card-Cisco-UCS-Servers-1024x238.jpg" alt="Install Windows Server on SD Card - Cisco UCS Servers" class="wp-image-16382" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-Windows-Server-on-SD-Card-Cisco-UCS-Servers-1024x238.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-Windows-Server-on-SD-Card-Cisco-UCS-Servers-300x70.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-Windows-Server-on-SD-Card-Cisco-UCS-Servers-768x178.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Install-Windows-Server-on-SD-Card-Cisco-UCS-Servers.jpg 1267w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Install Windows Server on SD Card &#8211; Cisco UCS Servers</figcaption></figure>

<p><strong>5.</strong> Finally, edit the Windows Server boot manager to force the system to boot via drive <code>C</code>. </p>

<pre class="wp-block-code"><code>bootsect /nt60 C: /force /mbr&lt;br&gt;
bcdboot C:\Windows /s C:</code></pre>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="625" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Edit-Windows-Server-Boot-Manager-1024x625.jpg" alt="Edit Windows Server Boot Manager" class="wp-image-16388" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Edit-Windows-Server-Boot-Manager-1024x625.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Edit-Windows-Server-Boot-Manager-300x183.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Edit-Windows-Server-Boot-Manager-768x469.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Edit-Windows-Server-Boot-Manager.jpg 1218w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Edit Windows Server Boot Manager</figcaption></figure>

<p><strong>6</strong>. Done. Restart your UCS Server and it will boot up via SD card. </p>
