For example, consider an educational center that stores thousands of students’ files with a high volume of similar contents and structures. Fortunately, data Deduplication technology can manage duplicated data and improve storage efficiency. Data Deduplication is a process that eliminates the excessive copies of data and decreases the storage capacity requirements. Important note: Data Deduplication can deduplicate data on NTFS and ReFS only.

Install data deduplication on Windows Server 2022

You can install the data deduplication feature on the windows server through the Server Manager, PowerShell, and Windows Admin Center. I will use the Server Manager to install the Dedup roles and features on Windows Server 2022 in this session. Follow me with the steps below to install:

1. Open the Server Manager.
2. On the server manager dashboard, click on Add roles and Features. (Or on the Manage >Add Roles and Features)
3. In the Before You Begin wizard, click on the Next button.
4. Select the installation type: Role-based or feature-based installation, and click next.
5. Select the destination server and click next.
6. Find the File and Storage Services in the Server Roles wizard and expand it. Expand the File and iSCSI Services.

7. Find the Data Deduplication feature and tick it. Click on the Add features button.
8. Click on the Next button till the Installation button activates. And click on the Install button. Wait for a few seconds; the feature will install.
9. Finally, close the wizard.

How to enable data deduplication on Server 2022?

After installing the data deduplication feature on your Windows Server, now you should enable it on a volume.

1. Determine on which volume you are going to apply the data deduplication. (You cannot implement it on the C drive)
2. Open the Server Manager dashboard.
3. On the left-hand side, click on File and Storage Services.

4. Click on the Volumes.
5. Right-click on the desired volumes, and click on the Configure data deduplication.

6. You see, the data deduplication is disabled by default. Click on the drop-down menu to enable it. Select a proper answer from the three options below:
   1. General-purpose file server: it is used for general purpose (I select this one here)
   2. Virtual desktop infrastructure server: choose this option if you use it for virtualization.
   3. Virtualized backup server: Select this option if you use the virtual machine as a backup server.

7. Additionally, You can input a number to tell the server that starts deduplicating your files in a volume after some days. By default, it is three days. Here I want my server to deduplicate right now; that’s why I choose the 0 number.

8. If you want to exclude some files and folders and do not want them to be deduplicated, click on the Add button and select the folder. Or write file extension and click enter.

How to Schedule the Deduplication on Windows Server 2022?

Additionally, in the Deduplication setting wizard, you see the Set Deduplication Schedule button. Click on that to schedule the Deduplication on your server.

You can set the time to start the Deduplication process and specify the Deduplication’s day, hours, and duration. Moreover, you can create a second schedule for throughput optimization. After you set the scheduled time, click Ok.

How to Run Data Deduplication process on Volumes?

Now that you have installed the Data deduplication feature and enabled it on your Windows Server. You should know that it does not start deduplicating immediately. It will start running in the background when the system is idle or according to the time you specified in the schedule. However, you can run the Deduplication job on the targeted volumes manually. To illustrate it further, I have an E: drive on my system and want to implement the Deduplication process. To do that, I run the PowerShell as an administrator and write the following command, and enter.

Start-DedupJob –Volume "Name_of_Volume" –Type Optimization

Local Web Server is the computer with server operating system to host Websites. It runs network protocols and services to function entirely for running written codes by different programming languages and databases like MySQL or MSSQL Server. Creating such a server need more money, configuration skills and daily maintenance.

Well, to have a home web server for running your written script or testing content management system (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, you don’t need a reliable computer and web server operating system. All you need to do this to install a web development platform which contains PHP engine for running  Scripts and MySQL Server for using as database and Apache Web Server. These are all pretty enough for our home and Free Web Server Lab.

There are many web development platforms with the same functionality for creating a local web server. In this article, we try to use WAMP server. If you are a Windows user, you can use WAMP Server or XAMPP Server. For Linux user better to use LAMP Server or some alternative.

First download the WAMP server from here according to your operating system architecture. If your PC operating system is x64bit, so you must download 64bit version of WAMP server. To know your OS architecture, right click computer icon’s on desktop and click Properties. You can see what is your OS. See the screenshot.

When you click the download link a new popup page will appear. Just do as the instruction. Click the download directly link.

Download the setup files and two necessary updates if you don’t have already installed them on your PC.

When the download has complete run the WAMP Server setup file and continue by clicking Yes to run as administrator.

Click next on the first page.

Accept the license agreement and click next.

Chose which directory you want to install Wamp Server and click next.

Tick create a desktop icon on the select additional tasks and click next.

Now click Install button in Ready to install page.

It takes a minute to extract all files. When extracting complete successfully, ask you to select a browser as default web browser for Wamp Server.

Just select each browser you have on your system and click Open. I’m using Google Chrome for this purpose.

Maybe Windows Firewall will ask you about allowing Wamp Server access to public network. In this page only click allow access and continue.

Leave the PHP mail parameters page by default and click next.

Finally click finish button to close the setup page.

Now the Wamp icon must appear to the Windows Taskbar.

Just click Wamp Server icon and open the Localhost link.

This is the home page of your local Web Server.

As web developer or programmer you can can write and test your code locally, also install CMS and test your website before you lunch it publicly trough the internet.

To install a Windows operating system you need a Windows DVD disc or a bootable USB flash drive. There are many ways to create a Windows Bootable USB. So I want to show you, how to do it with Diskpart command line utility.

First, connect the USB flash drive to your PC and then run Diskpart .

In order to run diskpart, press Windows button+R and type diskpart then hit the enter.

In the screen click Yes in order to run diskpart as administrator.

So when the diskpart opened, type list disk command for showing the connected USB flash drive and hard disk.

Now it shows 60 GB hard disk and my 14 GB USB flash drive.

You must select the flash drive by select command. Type select disk 1 (disk 1 is USB ) and then type list disk to see whether USB has been selected or not.

The selected disk showed with a stroke symbol in-frond .

Now clean the flash with clean command. Just type clean and hit enter.

Create a primary partition and format it with the NTFS file format.

To create a partition type create partition primary.

Now, format the newly created partition by typing format fs=ntfs quick command.

Now set the partition as an active drive for booting during staring system. To do this type active command

Close the diskpart by typing exit command.

Copying Files to  Bootable USB Drive

Finally, copy the contents of Windows DVD or Image to USB flash drive.

Everything is good and your Bootable USB is ready for installing windows.
