The Windows Remote Management (WinRM) is the Microsoft implementation of WS-Management Protocol, a standard Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)-based, firewall-friendly protocol that allows you to control Windows Servers and clients remotely through command line interface.</p>
<h3>How to Configure WinRM?</h3>
<p>To enable and configure WinRM on Windows Server, you must login as domain admin user privilege and run the Windows remote management Winrm quickconfig.</p>
<p>OK, I assume that you have log on to Windows Server as domain admin. Now open the <strong>CMD</strong> or <strong>PowerShell</strong> as administrator.</p>
<figure id="attachment_2949" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2949" style="width: 781px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://3.90.216.52/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-2949" src="http://3.90.216.52/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM.jpg" alt="Configure WinRM" width="781" height="220" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM.jpg 781w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-300x85.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-768x216.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 781px) 100vw, 781px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2949" class="wp-caption-text">Configure WinRM</figcaption></figure>
<p>Type <strong>winrm quickconfig</strong> and press enter. If ask you about creating firewall exception, just type <strong>Y</strong> and hit enter.</p>
<blockquote><p><em><strong>Winrm quickconfig </strong></em></p></blockquote>
<p>The Winrm is already configured in my Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controller. The next step is to test Winrm from a client PC.</p>
<h3>Testing WinRM from a client PC</h3>
<p>Login to your client PC as domain admin or a user that have access and the appropriate privilege for Windows Remote Management. Here I&#8217;m using Windows 10 as client user to test WinRM.</p>
<figure id="attachment_2950" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2950" style="width: 997px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://3.90.216.52/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-on-Windows-10.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-2950" src="http://3.90.216.52/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-on-Windows-10.jpg" alt="Configure WinRM on Windows 10" width="997" height="582" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-on-Windows-10.jpg 997w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-on-Windows-10-300x175.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Configure-WinRM-on-Windows-10-768x448.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 997px) 100vw, 997px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2950" class="wp-caption-text">Configure WinRM on Windows 10</figcaption></figure>
<p><strong>1.</strong> Fist of all enable and configure WinRM on Windows 10 which work the same as enabling WinRM on Windows Server. Just type <strong>winrm quickconfig</strong> and press enter.  To set the winRM service type to delayed auto start and <strong>HTTP</strong> listener press <strong>Y</strong> then hit enter.</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong>  Let&#8217;s test it with <strong>Winrs -r:</strong> remote command if it work correctly in Windows 10.</p>
<figure id="attachment_2953" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2953" style="width: 888px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://3.90.216.52/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Winrs.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-2953" src="http://3.90.216.52/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Winrs.jpg" alt="Winrs" width="888" height="691" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Winrs.jpg 888w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Winrs-300x233.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Winrs-768x598.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 888px) 100vw, 888px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2953" class="wp-caption-text">WinRS</figcaption></figure>
<p>Yes, It works perfectly. The <strong>Winrs -r:</strong> is the remote service to connect us to Windows Server. Then <strong>dc1</strong> is my Server name and next are the executable command which we are execute to Server. For example <strong><a href="https://www.technig.com/net-user-command-add-delete-edit-user/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Net user</a></strong> command, Ipconfig or network Shell (<strong><a href="https://www.technig.com/configure-windows-ipv4-networking-with-netsh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">netsh</a>) </strong><b>etc.</b></p>
<p>That is all you need to know about configure <strong>WinRM</strong> and <strong>WinRS</strong> in Windows Server and Windows Clients. Hope you get something new from this article.</p>
