<p>PowerShell offers a quick way to manage computers remotely through scripting and cmdlets. You can enable Windows PowerShell Remoting to manage multiple computers remotely in Windows 11 and other latest windows.</p>

<p>While setting up a remote connection between computers, Windows Firewall blocks the request to the remote computer, so you have to allow the firewall features related to remote management in the Windows Firewall. Go to <strong>Control Panel,</strong> <strong>System and Security</strong>, <strong>Windows Defender Firewall</strong>, and click on <strong>Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall</strong>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="879" height="476" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359.png" alt="Allow an app or feature through windows defender firewall" class="wp-image-17637" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359.png 879w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359-300x162.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220422_201359-768x416.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 879px) 100vw, 879px" /><figcaption>Windows Defender Firewall.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>In order to be able to set up PowerShell remoting in Windows 11, allow the following features in the Windows Defender Firewall.</p>

<ol start="1" class="bs-shortcode-list wp-block-list"><li>Remote Desktop</li><li>Remote Assistance</li><li>Remote Event Log Management</li><li>Remote Event Monitor</li><li>Remote Scheduled Tasks Management</li><li>Remote Service Management</li><li>Remote Shut-down</li><li>Remote Volume Management</li><li>Virtual Machine Monitoring</li><li>Windows Firewall Remote Management</li><li>Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)</li><li>Windows Remote Management</li><li>Windows Remote Management (Compatibility)</li></ol>

<p>It looks a long way and has a lot of things to configure. The quick way is to enable it through PowerShell. Open PowerShell as administrator and then type <code>Enable-PSRemoting</code>. If this command does not run successfully, then you have to allow the features mentioned above manually.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="653" height="199" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_060844.png" alt="Enable PowerShell Remoting through PowerShell." class="wp-image-17630" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_060844.png 653w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_060844-300x91.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 653px) 100vw, 653px" /><figcaption>Enable PowerShell remoting.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Sometimes you will receive an error message. If your computer&#8217;s network adapter is set up for a public network, then you have to change the connection type to private.</p>

<p>For more about PowerShell remoting, click <a href="https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/learn/ps101/08-powershell-remoting?msclkid=fdb7480ac25311ec8abb53443385e8b5&amp;view=powershell-7.2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Change Network Profile Type Using PowerShell</h2>

<p>To change the network profile type from public network to private network using PowerShell, follow the steps below.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="819" height="262" src="https://technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843.png" alt="Get Network Connection Profile  in PowerShell." class="wp-image-17626" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843.png 819w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843-300x96.png 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/screenshot_20220421_024843-768x246.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /><figcaption>Check the network connection profile for a specific ethernet.</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Now that the connection type changed from public to private try to enable PowerShell remoting.</p>

<p>PowerShell is a great tool to configure windows settings locally or remotely because there is no Graphical User Interface (GUI) involved, and it runs the command quickly. Another advantage of PowerShell is that you can manage multiple remote computers at the same time, and run one command on multiple computers.</p>

<ol>
<li>Press <strong>Windows+R</strong> keys to open the <strong>Run</strong>.</li>
<li>Type &#8220;<strong>cmd</strong>&#8221; in the run and press enter.</li>
<li>Now type &#8220;<strong>ipconfig</strong>&#8221; to show the IP address.</li>

<p>Here, I just have one network interface on my Windows 10 computer. The result of ipconfig command shows that the IP 169.254.29.130 with the mask of 255.255.255.0 is my current Windows IP address.</p>
<p>This is a class C &#8220;autoconfiguration IPv4&#8221;. When your system doesn&#8217;t find any DHCP Server or manual IP address, it obtains auto IP address. So let&#8217;s change it.</p>
<h2>How to C<b>hange</b> IP Address with<b> Command Prompt?</b></h2>
<p>For change IP address, open command prompt or PowerShell. Both works the same and you can run all command prompt commends on Powershell as well. Ok, run cmd or Powershell as administrator. Netsh work in both command prompt and Powershell. I&#8217;m using Windows Powershell to change IP address on Windows 10 completely. Becuase the user interface and color&#8217;s of Powershell is better than Command prompt.</p>
<ol>
<li>Type &#8220;<strong>Powershell</strong>&#8221; in Windows 10 search box to run Windows Powershell.</li>
<li>You need to run Powershell as administrator. Just press Windows+Shift the press enter to run Powershell as administrator. Or right-click the Powershell and click <strong>Run as administrator</strong>.</li>
</ol>

<p>It displays all the network interface configuration. The output result is clear and better than output result of &#8220;<strong>ipconfig</strong>&#8221; command on Command prompt. So to find an exact information of the network interface, just add the index ID of the network interface at the end of the command.</p>
<pre class="nums:false plain:false lang:default decode:true">netsh interface ipv4 show config 2</pre>

<p>That&#8217;s good. Let&#8217;s configure and change Windows 10 IP address with the command line. The command is bit long but easy to understand. No need to remember, just try to understand the netsh command structure.</p>
<p>To change the IP address of the &#8220;Ethernet0&#8221; network interface, type the following command.</p>
<pre class="nums:false plain:false lang:default decode:true">netsh interface ipv4 set address name=2 static 200.100.10.5 mask=255.255.255.0 gateway=200.100.10.1</pre>
<p><figure id="attachment_10976" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10976" style="width: 1307px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Change-IP-Address-in-Windows-10-using-Command-Line-Technig.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-10976 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Change-IP-Address-in-Windows-10-using-Command-Line-Technig.jpg" alt="Change IP Address in Windows 10 using Command Line - Technig" width="1307" height="300" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Change-IP-Address-in-Windows-10-using-Command-Line-Technig.jpg 1307w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Change-IP-Address-in-Windows-10-using-Command-Line-Technig-300x69.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Change-IP-Address-in-Windows-10-using-Command-Line-Technig-768x176.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Change-IP-Address-in-Windows-10-using-Command-Line-Technig-1024x235.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1307px) 100vw, 1307px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10976" class="wp-caption-text">Change IP Address in Windows 10 using Command Line &#8211; Technig</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Once the command executed successfully, check the result with &#8220;<strong>netsh interface ipv4 show config 2</strong>&#8221; command. Yes, the output result shows the exact IP address has set on the &#8220;<strong>Ethernet0</strong>&#8221; network interface. Now the Windows IP address is 200.100.10.5 with the mask of 255.255.255.0 and default gateway is 200.100.10.1.</p>
<p><strong>Note</strong>: You can&#8217;t change the default gateway separately with the following command. It will remove the IP address and just set the default gateway address.</p>
<pre class="nums:false plain:false lang:default decode:true">netsh interface ipv4 set address name=2 gateway= (Gateway IP Address)</pre>
<p>That&#8217;s good and enough for IP address configuration in Windows 10 with the command line. Let&#8217;s change DNS IP address from the command line.</p>

<h2>How to Change DNS IP address from Command Prompt?</h2>
<p>DNS IP address is the unique address in the network that resolves computer name to IP address and IP address to the computer name. In the network, finding a computer with a name is easy than 32-bit IPv4 address. To set or change the DNS IP address, just simply do it with the following command.</p>
<pre class="nums:false plain:false lang:default decode:true">netsh interface ipv4 set dns name=2 static 200.100.10.30</pre>
<p><figure id="attachment_10980" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10980" style="width: 794px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Change-DNS-IP-address-from-Command-Prompt-Technig.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-10980 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Change-DNS-IP-address-from-Command-Prompt-Technig.jpg" alt="How to Change DNS IP address from Command Prompt - Technig" width="794" height="72" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Change-DNS-IP-address-from-Command-Prompt-Technig.jpg 794w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Change-DNS-IP-address-from-Command-Prompt-Technig-300x27.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/How-to-Change-DNS-IP-address-from-Command-Prompt-Technig-768x70.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10980" class="wp-caption-text">How to Change DNS IP address from Command Prompt &#8211; Technig</figcaption></figure></p>

<h3 style="text-align: justify;">1. Desktop configuration</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">For Windows Server 2012 R2 Initial Configuration after the first log on to Windows Server, you will see  server manager like the below screenshot.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_749" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-749" style="width: 1026px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-749 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro.jpg" alt="Windows Server 2012 R2 Metro" width="1026" height="765" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro.jpg 1026w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro-300x224.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro-768x573.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Windows-Server-2012-R2-Metro-86x64.jpg 86w" sizes="(max-width: 1026px) 100vw, 1026px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-749" class="wp-caption-text">Windows Server 2012 R2</figcaption></figure></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The server manager dashboard will open every time you restart or log off your server. You can stop it from <strong>Server Manager Properties</strong>. Just tick the <strong>Do not start Server Manager</strong> <strong>automatically at Log on</strong>.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_750" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-750" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Server-Manager-Properties.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-750 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Server-Manager-Properties.jpg" alt="Server Manager Properties" width="1024" height="543" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Server-Manager-Properties.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Server-Manager-Properties-300x159.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Server-Manager-Properties-768x407.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-750" class="wp-caption-text">Server Manager Properties</figcaption></figure></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The Windows Server 2012 R2 interfaces are different from earlier Windows Servers. I like to have desktop icons the same as older Server desktops, but by default we are not able to bring icons like My Computer, Documents and Network. To do this , you must install &#8216;<strong>Desktop Experience&#8217;</strong> from Windows Server Features.</p>
<blockquote><p><em><strong>Note</strong>: It is not good idea to enable some extra features or install software in Windows Server for bringing desktop icons. I just show you the ways as a tips. </em></p></blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;">From Server Manager dashboard, go to ‘<strong>Add Roles and Features</strong>’, select ‘<strong>Role-based or Feature-based installation</strong>’ without any changes to other roles and features, select &#8216;<strong>Desktop Experience&#8217;</strong> from <strong>User Interface and Infrastructure</strong>&#8230; under Features.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_766" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-766" style="width: 797px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Add-Roles-and-Features-Wizard.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-766 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Add-Roles-and-Features-Wizard.jpg" alt="Add Roles and Features Wizard" width="797" height="564" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Add-Roles-and-Features-Wizard.jpg 797w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Add-Roles-and-Features-Wizard-300x212.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Add-Roles-and-Features-Wizard-768x543.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 797px) 100vw, 797px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-766" class="wp-caption-text">Add Roles and Features Wizard</figcaption></figure></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Click <strong>Next</strong> and then click <strong>install</strong>. You must restart the server when the installation has complete.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_767" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-767" style="width: 758px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Restart-Server.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-767 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Restart-Server.jpg" alt="Restart Server" width="758" height="254" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Restart-Server.jpg 758w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Restart-Server-300x101.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 758px) 100vw, 758px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-767" class="wp-caption-text">Restart Server</figcaption></figure></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">After restarting Server, right click on the <strong>desktop</strong>, click <strong>Properties</strong> and check tick of all icons you need as mentioned below.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_768" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-768" style="width: 1025px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-768 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons.jpg" alt="Desktop Icons in Windows Server 2012 R2" width="1025" height="769" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons.jpg 1025w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Desktop-Icons-86x64.jpg 86w" sizes="(max-width: 1025px) 100vw, 1025px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-768" class="wp-caption-text">Desktop Icons</figcaption></figure></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You can change desktop background, etc. But must tell you again, do not install desktop experience, because of security issue.</p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">2. Change Server Name</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The next step, you must change the host name or Server name. The Server name must be unique and easy to read for users. In order to change the Server name, Press <strong>Windows+R</strong> to open the Run and type <strong>Sysdm.cpl</strong> then press enter. This will open the <strong>System properties</strong>.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_752" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-752" style="width: 746px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Change-Domain-Controller.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-752 size-full" src="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Change-Domain-Controller.jpg" alt="Change Domain Controller" width="746" height="484" srcset="https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Change-Domain-Controller.jpg 746w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Change-Domain-Controller-300x195.jpg 300w, https://www.technig.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Change-Domain-Controller-210x136.jpg 210w" sizes="(max-width: 746px) 100vw, 746px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-752" class="wp-caption-text">Change Domain Controller</figcaption></figure></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In the System Properties for <strong>Computer description</strong> type a description for you computer according to it&#8217;s roles. This will help you to determine and find your computer quickly in the network. Then click <strong>Change </strong>button, type <strong>computer name</strong> and click <strong>OK</strong> to save the changes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">When ask you to restart server click <strong>OK</strong> twice then click <strong>Restart Now.</strong> The server will restart to complete the tasks.</p>
